Alcohol & Chemical Dependency

Nooksack Way of Life Prevention Program

Prevention is Culture – Culture is Prevention

The Nooksack Way of Life (NWOL), supported through SAMHSA Prevention Programs, weaves together traditional teachings and community connection to strengthen wellness and resilience. NWOL offers culturally grounded activities that increase awareness about drug and alcohol misuse while restoring pride in identity and belonging. Through hands-on learning and intergenerational teachings, youth and young adults develop balance, discipline, and a strong sense of self that supports healthier choices and lifestyles. Activities include drum making, weaving, beading, powwow dancing, War and Journey canoeing, traditional food gathering, and cultural field trips. Each experience builds connection—to culture, to community, and to self—reflecting the understanding that when culture is lived, prevention is strengthened.

Genesis II Chemical Dependency Program

Genesis II is a State-Certified Chemical Dependency (CD) Agency that provides confidential, compassionate, and culturally informed services for individuals and families impacted by substance use and addiction. Our comprehensive outpatient treatment program supports healing, balance, and long-term recovery through individual counseling, group sessions, and community engagement.

All our counselors are Certified Chemical Dependency Professionals (CDP/CADC) who walk alongside clients in their healing journey. Together, we work to strengthen coping skills, restore balance, and build the resilience needed to navigate life’s challenges without returning to active use or self-destructive behaviors.

Harm Reduction & Overdose Prevention

Genesis II offers free Narcan (naloxone) nasal spray, a life-saving medication that rapidly reverses the effects of an opioid overdose. If you suspect an overdose, call 911 immediately—Narcan is not a substitute for emergency medical care. Even if the person wakes up, medical attention is still critical.

Through the Good Samaritan Law, individuals who seek help for someone experiencing an overdose are protected from prosecution for drug possession or underage drinking. Carrying Narcan saves lives—ask our staff how to obtain a kit and learn how to use it.

Together We Heal

The Nooksack Way of Life and Genesis II programs work hand in hand to provide a full spectrum of support—from prevention to recovery. Rooted in culture, compassion, and community, these programs uphold the belief that true wellness comes from restoring connection—to the land, to our people, and to ourselves. Through this balance of tradition and treatment, we walk the path of healing together.
